5 Ground-Breaking Competitions for Innovative Youth

Adora Svitak is author of three books — Flying Fingers, Dancing Fingers and Yang in Disguise. She is one of the TED Conference’s youngest speakers and the curator of youth event TEDxRedmond. Since age 7 she has been drumming up excitement about reading and writing among fellow students.

“To win the future, we have to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world, tapping the creativity and imagination of our people,” says the White House’s Winning the Future website.

Teens who want to realize that goal don’t have to look far. Hosted by major companies and organizations, the following five science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competitions are giving my generation a chance to innovate.
