Looks like the YouTube ban in Thailand has been lifted. Now residents in Thailand are free to watch clips on the video-sharing site.

The Information and Communication Technology Ministry has plans to ask the cabinet to waive the decree that had been issued by the Council for National Security, which had initially banned YouTube earlier this year after a derogatory video had appeared promoting an air of disgrace amongst Thailand royalty and government officials. YouTube has done its part to appease Thailand, initially offering to help find the offensive videos and remove them, and now promising to keep this offensive content from appearing on the site at all.

The lifting of the ban goes beyond just YouTube, but to political sites that had been kept from public view as well. This move is largely in part due to the Surayud cabinet in an effort to assure the people of Thailand that the political situation is improving. Flickr has had its own run in with being banned in China, while others that have been viewed poorly in the eyes of their local governments have turned to YouTube as a way to continue expressing their freedom of speech.
