YouTube Adds Title and Rating to Embeds

The utility here is somewhat questionable. Chances are if someone has decided to embed a video elsewhere, they did so because they think it adds some value, and in many cases, will write something along with the embed to give it context. The styling is also rather bland, though going with something other than boring white text might make the text clash with the video. Nonetheless, if you’re viewing a YouTube video offsite, seeing this data can give you some idea as to whether or not you should bother to watch.

While this addition won’t blow you away, it does point to the increasing functionality that YouTube is adding to embeds. YouTube now features both related videos and a search box at the conclusion of videos, as well as the longer-standing options to copy embed code or go directly to the original on YouTube.

The only big things missing from embeds at this point are options to comment or add a video to your favorites – options I’d still like to see but YouTube might shy away from so as not to lose page views on their own site.
