YouTube Adds Detailed Engagement Statistics

Additionally, these stats can be narrowed down per video or per geographic region. Earlier today, a YouTube rep explained to us what this enables: “If it looks like your rating is 3/5 stars but the average Japanese viewer is giving you 2, while the French tend to give you 5, you'll now know where your real fans are located.”

In the screenshot above, you can see more of what this new feature is all about. You get a list of your most engaging videos -essentially an aggregate number based on the various community metrics that YouTube tracks - as well as the countries in which your videos are favorited the most. There are options to toggle between per video stats, or overall engagement metrics over time. Not surprisingly, the interface closely resembles that of Google Analytics.

Ultimately, this type of data will give video publishers additional insight into what’s working and what’s not, beyond raw view counts. YouTube also hopes it will increase in-video ads, as the data will give advertisers even more detailed stats to pour over beyond the demographic information already included in Insights.
