YouTube IPO?

The biggest criticism of YouTube is usually that they won't be able monetize their massive audience (100 million YouTube videos per day). However, they're stepping up their game, revealing this weekend that they've recruited the former Yahoo Treasurer Gideon Yu. 35 year-old Yu will become YouTube's chief financial officer.

Some bloggers are speculating that the move is the sign of an upcoming IPO or sale, contradicting co-founder Chad Hurley's claims that a YouTube sale isn't on the cards. YouTube is also building out its revenue streams, adding branded channels with the help of Paris Hilton, and segmenting its audience with releases like YouTube Colleges - potential signs that the company could go it alone.
