YouTube Helping Thailand Block Offensive Clips

YouTube will go the cooperative route, helping Thailand to block certain pages that have proven offensive to the country's officials.

Earlier this week, the entire YouTube website was banned, due to a wrath-provoking video clip that was found to be insulting to Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This controversial move spurred political and religious debate on a global level, and has brought Thailand's strict moderation of free speech in the country to the forefront of discussions.

With parent company Google acting as a liason and initiating communication between the video-sharing site and Thailand, I'm sure YouTube has found that being a helpful institution rather than a hindrance is the right thing to do. But when it comes down to YouTube keeping their promises for better regulating the content on YouTube, they haven't always come through. Just ask Viacom.
