Look inward, Zack Snyder.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director spent some time lording over the superhero world from atop his high horse this week, throwing shade at Marvel's tiny Ant-Man. Why pick on the little guy?

The whole thing came up during an interview with The Daily Beast published Thursday. Snyder was asked what he thought of Steven Spielberg saying that superhero movies -- currently the reigning champ of box offices everywhere -- will eventually ride off into the sunset, just like Westerns once did.

"I feel like he’s right," Snyder said. "But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman."

That's where things start to get a little petty. "They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man — not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?"

We should all stop for a moment and agree right here: Damon Wayans is and will forever be the one, true Blank-Man.

It's not like Snyder doesn't have a valid point. Superman and Batman are inarguably two of the world's most well-known superheroes; nothing in the Marvel stable has been around as long as those two have.

But the Ant-Man shade is surprising when you think about all Marvel has accomplished in the Cinematic Universe and compare it to... this:

How many innocent civilians do you think were lost when Supes waged his battle with General Zod smack dab in the middle of small-town America?

Maybe Snyder should spend less time worrying about the competition and more time teasing out Superman's inherent goodness and respect for human life -- two fundamental building blocks of that iconic character.
