LONDON -- Dame Zaha Hadid, one the most impactful architects of the 21st Century, has died aged 65 of a heart attack.
Iraqi-born and based in London, Hadid's "neo-futuristic" designs became some of the most famous sites around the world, including: the Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan, the Vitra Fire Station, in Rhein, Germany, the Guangzhou Opera House in China, the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati and the Aquatics Center, in East London, which became a beacon of the London 2012 Olympics.
Impactful and always inspirational, Hadid was the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize in 2004, and later the first woman to receive the Royal Institute of British Architects Gold Medal in the same year that she died.
