Lunatics and daredevils rejoice: A new experience has opened in Wales that allows you to scare yourself in a variety of ways.

Zip Below Extreme, offered by Go Below Underground Adventures, is a 5-kilometre (3-mile) subterranean experience that will fray your nerves to the breaking point.

Spread over numerous gloomy chambers deep in a Victoria former slate mine near Blaenau Ffestiniog in Snowdonia, it allows visitors to walk, rappel and climb their way through the course using just headlamps for lighting.

Nine underground zip wires must be tackled as part of the experience, including one that's 130 metres long -- apparently the world's longest underground zip wire.

The tour stretches some 1,300 feet below the surface, making it the deepest publicly accessible place in the UK.

After exploring more of the underworld, you get to launch yourself into darkness, leaping into the abyss with your heart in your throat and your trust in a free-fall device that promises to slow you to a landing, 70 feet below.
