For most of the American population, it's hard to remember a time before women were allowed to vote -- but Jerry Emmett does. And she helped nominate the first woman candidate for president from a major party.

On the floor of the Democratic National Convention tonight, 102-year-old Jerry Emmett cast her vote for candidate Hillary Clinton. While most delegates on the floor mention their state's football teams, and wonderful crop exports -- Emmett had a slightly different contribution. She, was born before women were even allowed to vote.

After Arizona cast their votes for Bernie, Emmett proudly announced hers.

"And 51 votes for the next president of the United States of America -- Hillary Rodham Clinton," Emmett said.

Emmett has been a lifelong Democrat. In the 1990s, she started the Hillary Clinton fan club. Emmett told the Phoenix News Times that she never thought she'd one day see a female presidential candidate.

"I surely didn't plan to live past 100 years old," Emmett told the Phoenix News Times. "When I did, and I saw all these things that were happening, it was like I had a shot in the arm."

Emmett compared Clinton to major female icons before her, like Rosie the Riveter and Eleanor Roosevelt.

"I'm strictly joined at the hip to Hillary Clinton, and I've admired her all of her life," Emmett said.

Women got the right to vote nationally in 1920, and Emmett is proud to continue the amendment's legacy.
