There's no shame in using the 10 year challenge to show off

Let people show off their glow-up and move on.

In the latest hashtag bandwagon, people are showing off how much hotter they've gotten since 2009. It's a good thing.

The 2009 vs. 2019 challenge, sometimes called the ten year challenge, is taking over your feeds with side-by-side photos of nostalgic throwbacks. You've probably scrolled past the photos and noticed the striking juxtaposition between scene kid and Instagram baddie.

And because we can't have nice things, some Twitter users have complained that they were tired of seeing the challenge posts.

This is the most lukewarm take: Let people enjoy things!

Look, nobody looked cute ten years ago. There's no way to make boot cut jeans and layered tank tops cute; the 2009 zeitgeist called for the most horrendous combination of apparel. And I, for one, was an unfortunate looking teen who has since blossomed into a relatively functional human. Let me have this opportunity to flex with my post-braces smile.

In this absolute hellscape that we live in, people should feel empowered to highlight their personal growth.

The ten year challenge is a rare burst of wholesome energy, which is exactly what we need after the dumpster fire of last year. People are celebrating their newfound hotness. Let us enjoy this.

For some, the challenge allowed them to show off living their best lives after transitioning. For others, it lets them highlight their vastly improved makeup skills. For most, they're just feeling themselves and that's great!

And if you're Reese Witherspoon, the ten year challenge just proves that people don't age if they stay unproblematic.

Bottom line: Yes, flooding the TL with before and after pictures is annoying. But it's 2019, and if we can't have a little appreciation for a glow up, then what else do we have?
