Let the Apple fanboy freakouts commence: we might be in line for a brand-new iPhone color.

According to Japanese Apple blog Macotakara, a site that's had a decent track record on Apple rumors, the 2017 version of the flagship device will be available in a red casing option. The outlet was also the first to float rumors of the removal of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7.

That news, of course, wound up being very true (and a very big deal).

Along with the new color, the report either confirms or quashes other rumors that have been floated through the news cycle.

Claiming to have information from a source with an in with Apple's supplier in Taiwan, the report says the 2017 iPhone will be the "iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, which are the updated version of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus."

Additionally the leak claims the basic design of the handset remains the same and the main update will be a new processor, the A11 chip. Very specifically, sources said that the 7S design "does not seem to come together with either the wireless charge or glass chassis."

Before this leak, others have claimed knowledge of next year's iPhones, possibly (notably without the S) with curved glass screens, OLED displays and wireless charging capabilities.

This is big news for Apple fans. With the color lineup as it stands currently (jet black, black, silver, rose gold and gold), the iPhone could use another bold burst of color.

The one wrinkle in the news is what might happen with the PRODUCT(RED) campaign going forward. If red becomes a fixture in the iPhone lineup, special edition products might just have to find a new color. Or at least a new shade.
