LONDON -- Ever wonder how different things might have been for E.T. if he'd visited earth in 2016? Or what the duties of a modern-day RoboCop might have looked like?

Well, wonder no more. The UK-based illustrator Tom Ward has combined his love of films with his graphic design skills to create a series of drawings that reimagine '80s movies in a modern-day setting.

"I have fond memories of '80s films and TV shows so I wanted to base a series of illustrations around the characters," Ward told Mashable. "I started to scribble out some silly ideas and thought putting the characters in situations they might find themselves in today could make for an interesting set.

"Initially I wrote down a long list of classic '80s films and TV characters and started to think of ways I could update them," Ward said. "Some were harder to think of so I gave up on a few favorites -- apologies to Indiana Jones and The Goonies. Cheetara twerking didn’t quite make the cut either.

"After I had the concept for each I drew them out in pencil before inking them. I then scanned them in, made any minor adjustments and finally colored them on the computer. I haven’t seen friends and family for a while now."

Ward said he's so far received lots of positive comments and feedback on the illustrations and, although he's finished with this particular series, he's got plenty of other movie- and pop culture-themed projects in the pipeline.

You can see more of Ward's work on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
