Enjoy this beautiful, baseless rumor that Carrie Brownstein and Abbi Jacobson are dating

What the rumor lacks in evidence it makes up for in enthusiasm.

For one small, dedicated corner of the internet, there is no gossip more enticing -- yet elusive -- than that of Carrie Brownstein's dating life.

And on Wednesday, the "news" (emphasis on the ironic quotes) broke like wildfire. Based on a total of three Instagram posts, queer culture site Autostraddle, concluded that it was theoretically, hypothetically, within-the-margin-of-error possible that Carrie Brownstein and Broad City star Abbi Jacobson might actually be-- grab your inhalers, everyone -- dating.

Evidence A (There's not much more evidence than this, so hold onto it):

Of course, as Autostraddle cautioned, the rumor is unsubstantiated, based on highly circumstantial, though compelling, evidence. There have been three Instagrams in the past month that could easily be "friendship" Instagrams but could also be interpreted as relationship Instagrams if you put enough magical thinking into it.

First, there's Abbi at the beach with what's believe to be Carrie's dog posted a little over a month ago. There's even a dog in the photo, which, if you're drunk enough, can lead you to believe that it's their dog, that they're actually living together and recently got married.

Congrats you two!

Abbi later posted this picture of Carrie on this moody beach for her birthday, but somehow failed to type the caption: "We've been through a lot over the past 6-10 weeks, but I'm confident you are my soulmate and the internet is correct."

Happy Birthday to this brilliant adventurer, @carrie_rachel

A quick tour of both of their Instagrams reveals that they both seem to like each other, or at least each other's feed. Often, Abbi will like Carrie's Instagram posts even if she's not featured in it, which is clearly a loving, sacrificial act.

Neither Carrie nor Abbi have come forward to publicly address the rumors because -- why would they? For now, the internet will have to resort to cooking up highly imaginative conspiracy theories that two of the funniest women in the country are actually "a thing."

Shouldn't be a problem.
