You'll need to take out a loan to buy this huge gaming laptop
Acer's Predator 21 X is quite possibly one of the most extravagant laptops we've ever seen.
From its 17-pound weight, to its curved 21-inch display (a world's first), to its eight heat pipes for cooling, to its two built-in sub-woofers, to its VR-ready graphics, Acer's "mobile" behemoth is everything Apple's new MacBook Pros aren't.
The Predator 21 X also comes with a hefty price to match its ridiculous specs: $9,000 to start when it goes on sale in February.
When we saw the Predator 21 X in person at IFA in September, we couldn't get over its Decepticon-like design that seems capable of taking a serious beating.
Not much has changed. It's still an absurd amount of power in a machine that you can (if you want to) toss into a (very large) backpack.
Here's a recap of its marquee features:
21-inch curved screen (2,560 x 1,080) with NVIDIA G-Sync
Tobii eye-tracking technology
Overclockable 7th-gen Intel Core i7 processor
64GB of DDR4-2400 RAM
Up to four 512GB SSD in RAID 0, one 7200 RPM hard drive (up to 2TB)
Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics in SLI
SoundPound 4.2+ (four speakers and two subwoofers)
3-way audio and Dolby Audio
5 system fans for cooling (3 are metal AeroBlade)
Full-sized mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX keys and number pad
The Predator 21 X's aggressive edges and vented design aren't going to be to everyone's liking, but for the energy-drinking, dubstep-immersed gamer stereotype, it might be just the laptop to save up for -- if only for the trackpad that flips over and turns into a number pad.
