Google surprised exactly no one when it confirmed the long-rumored name for the next version of Android: Oreo.

Now we know the name will extend not just to Google's Software but to the cookies themselves -- at least, if you were lucky enough to snag a few at Google's name reveal event.

Oreo made a batch of specially-branded Android cookies, which feature the robot mascot on one side, the traditional Oreo logo on the other, and green filling. The limited edition cookies were specially made for Google's New York event, where they made the big Oreo reveal.

This isn't the first time Google has partnered with a major brand for a dessert-themed Android update. The company had a similar partnership with Nestle four years ago when it launched Android KitKat. That update, which was previously thought to be "Key Lime Pie," launched Android-branded candy bars, which were sold in a handful of countries, including the U.S., Japan, and UK.

People who bought the the Android edition Kit Kats also had the chance of winning a Nexus 7 tablet or Google Play credits. It seems unlikely Google will do any similar promotions for the special editions Oreos, since they were made only for the event, but we understand this won't be the last Google + Oreo pairing we see.

The partnership between the two companies "will entail a variety of global initiatives designed to create innovative, playful experiences for both OREO and Android fans," according to a statement from Oreo-maker Mondelez.

Updated with more information about the special edition Oreos.
