The first Indian album to be streamed more than one billion times is here. And, of course, it belongs to Bollywood.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, a film that generated a lot of buzz, has ruled the music charts since its October release.

Within 48 hours of launch, its title track had reportedly clocked a million streams on Saavn, India's homegrown Apple Music rival, setting a new record for the service.

On YouTube, meanwhile, the music album recorded over 4.1 million hits.

And three of its tracks individually crossed the 100-million mark.

The film's producer-director Karan Johar, who's been in the news for his bare-it-all memoir, said in a statement, "I am so thrilled with the response for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil! It's been an amazing journey and the audiences validation has been exceptional... 1BN [sic] thank yous to all!"

The film's music was composed by Pritam, a popular name in Bollywood and also one of the local artists Apple Music is collaborating with in India. Incidentally, four tracks from the album feature in the top ten of Apple Music "Best of 2016" playlist for the country.

On social media, some people even called it the "best album of the decade."
