An Indian airline has set a record by flying around the world with an all-female crew.

The Air India Boeing 777-200LR took off from New Delhi to San Francisco last Monday and returned on Friday.

From the check-in ground staff to officials in the cockpit, and engineers who certified the aircraft and even the staff at the air traffic controllers were all women, the airline said.

The feat comes as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, Air India said, adding that it has applied for recognition from Guinness World Records and Limca Book of Records. Last year, too, Air India had an all-female crew operate the world’s longest continuous flight.

The flight, en route to the United States, flew over the Pacific Ocean and took the Atlantic route while returning, covering the entire globe.

For Air India, bagging world records isn’t anything new. Last October, the airline made news when it took the trans-Pacific route instead of the usual Atlantic route to run the longest non-stop flight in shortest time.
