A crane carrying an Air India Airbus A320 snapped early Sunday morning, dropping the plane from about 60 feet in the air.

Airport staff were transporting the aircraft from Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, India, to a nearby training academy when the cables supporting the 77-ton plane collapsed.

No injuries were reported.

The aircraft had to be held up at 60 feet during the two-mile trek from airport hangar to academy to "avoid trees and electric poles on the road," police spokesperson Prakash Reddy told Times of India.

The process of moving the plane, which was meant to be used to train airline staff, began at 10 p.m. Saturday night.

At about 6:30 a.m. the 220-ton crane, mounted to a road transporter, lost balance and buckled under the weight of the aircraft. The plane fell onto private property.

Although it was damaged, the plane will still be used for training, according to Air India.

Air India officials said that this was the first time an aircraft had been transported via crane in India.

The A320 had been dormant at the airport since 2007.
