Alexa is getting some new skills that will finally help you keep track of all of your responsibilities during the day.

Amazon just announced its AI assistant Alexa will now be able to recognize commands to set reminders and named timers. That means Amazon Echo owners can now depend on Alexa to keep them from forgetting about their daily errands — which, if we're going to be honest, should probably have been a major feature from Day One.

The voice-enabled reminders are simple to set up.

To set a reminder, just tell Alexa what you need to do and when, and she'll take note. So if you say, "Alexa, remind me to stop making covfefe jokes in 10 minutes," your trusty AI helper will flash blue and alert you via voice command that maybe, after you've had the chance to craft one last masterpiece zinger, it might be time to retire covfefe jokes.

You can also plan a little further out, setting specific reminders in advance, and keep track of them all in the Alerts & Alarms section of the Alexa app.

The update also comes with Named Timers, which allows users to distinguish between multiple timers they set. In Amazon's example, if you set a pasta timer and a garlic bread timer at the same time, Alexa will state which timer of the two is done.

This should be particularly useful in the kitchen. While you're making your next multi-course masterpiece, you'll be able to avoid mixing up your cook times by assigning a timer to each dish. You'll be able to manage the timers manually via the app, just like the reminders.

The new functionalities come shortly after Amazon reached across the tech aisle to Apple to allow iCloud calendar support, making Alexa even more useful for those looking to hack their productivity with their digital assistants. Reminders and named timers are ready for U.S. users now, with a wider rollout to Germany and the UK coming in the next few weeks.
