The first-ever Chief Technology Officer for the Republican party has penned an open letter to fellow Republicans and to President-elect Donald Trump calling on them to disavow and denounce by name white nationalists, white supremacists and neo-Nazis who are part of the so-called "alt-right" movement.

Andrew Barkett served as CTO of the RNC from 2013 to 2015. He is now a member-elect for the party's central committee in San Mateo County, CA.

In a letter posted on Facebook and Medium, Barkett takes aim at Richard Spencer, one of the movement's most prominent leaders and Steve Bannon, former editor of Breitbart who's been named White House chief strategist.

"These are racist, intolerant ideologies. They go against the spirit and interests of the United States of America. These beliefs have no place in the party of Lincoln," he wrote.

"I demand that President-elect Trump remove Bannon from his position as 'chief strategist' immediately and unconditionally," he went on.

"The failure of President-elect Trump and his team to denounce these instigators and proponents of racism, white nationalism, identitarianism, and xenophobia has allowed their particular ideologies to thrive."

After Barkett's original post was published, Trump disavowed the "alt-right" in a meeting with The New York Times, saying he doesn't "want to energize the group, and I disavow the group."

However following that, Barkett re-worded the original statement asking Trump to "condemn people and movements by name (which he has not done) as well as require that he acknowledge Bannon had enabled the alt-right, by firing him."
