Amazon said Thursday that it had its biggest Prime Day in history, selling some 375 million items worldwide during the two-day sale.

While the company did not give specific numbers, it said it broke a sales record on the first day of Prime Day.

"The first day of Prime Day was the largest sales day in Amazon's history, and Prime members saved more this year than any other Prime Day event," said Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Stores in a statement. "Prime is an incredible value, and we're proud to offer additional value for members through exclusive deals events like Prime Day. Thank you to our Prime members for continuing to shop in our store, and to our employees and independent sellers around the world who delivered for customers this Prime Day."

Adobe Analytics Data found that sales on the first day of Prime nearly 6 percent year over year to $6.4 billion, making it the biggest e-commerce day of the year.

"Prime Day has become of one the biggest e-commerce moments of the year, as consumers latch onto major discounts from a number of different retailers," said Vivek Pandya, a lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, via TechCrunch. "The record spending so far shows us that consumers are tapping into their inner bargain hunters, stocking up on specific categories such as electronics and apparel while the discounts remain steep."
