Amazon brings back the white Kindle e-reader
The white Amazon Kindle e-reader is back.
Almost two months after Amazon rocked the e-reader world with a completely rethought Kindle Oasis, the company is, as of Wednesday, offering a considerably more modest update to its entry-level Kindle e-reader.
The $79.99 E Ink-based Kindle (without a special surname attached to it) is now thinner, lighter, has more memory and comes in glorious white. The last time the U.S. market saw a white Kindle was way back in 2010 with the Kindle 2 and giant Kindle DX. Since then, they've all been varying shades of dark grey.

Amazon also managed to shave off more than a millimeter from the thickness (it's now 9.7 mm) and a full ounce (now 5.7 oz.).
This is also the first Kindle to feature built-in Bluetooth audio support. Amazon designed it specifically to support the visually impaired. Now, instead of using a separate adapter, people can simply connect to their favorite Bluetooth headset and have the book read to them using the Kindle's VoiceView screen reader.
Even though the new Kindle doesn't have a 300 ppi 6-inch, reflective screen (it's just 167 ppi) or is as thin and unusually designed as the Oasis, it does have the benefit of being over $200 cheaper than the Oasis. Now, with a slighter frame and twice as much memory, it's an even better e-reading value.
And if you were dying to own a white Kindle, this is your lucky day.
