Two Australian ambulance officers have been praised for a kind, yet simple act for a dying man.

As per a Facebook post by the Queensland Ambulance Service, 72-year-old Ron McCartney took a trip to hospital for palliative care last week.

His wife, Sharon, told officers he had been eating very little in the two days prior to being picked p. So the officers asked Ron what he'd want to eat, if he could eat anything.

Ron's answer? A caramel sundae.

The officers, Kate Hanafy and Hanna Hoswell, dropped by a McDonald's to pick up the special treat.

"He was wrapped, he was getting it all over his face, getting it all over his shirt, he had a big smile on his face and his wife was tearing up because she was so pleased to see him eating," Hanafy told Fairfax Media.

People praised the pair on social media, lauding them for their kindness.

Ron passed away on Saturday, according to a comment on the Facebook post by his daughter, Danielle Smith. She thanked the officers for their kindness.

"Thank you so very much to Hannah and Kate, Dad enjoyed this so much and was the last thing he was able to eat by himself," she wrote.

"Mum and I cannot thank QAS enough for all the help and compassion you have all given towards us each time we have had to call you."

A simple act certainly goes a long way.
