If you've been on an American Airlines flight recently and thought the Wi-Fi could have been better, the airline agrees with you.

American filed a suit in district court in Texas last week, claiming its in-flight Wi-Fi provider Gogo is not as fast as competitor ViaSat, which provides connectivity on JetBlue, Virgin America and United. The suit applies to 200 of the airline's planes.

“After carefully evaluating the new technology and services in the marketplace, American has decided to exercise its rights under the Agreement and recently notified Gogo that ViaSat offers an in-flight connectivity system that materially improves on Gogo’s air-to-ground system,” the lawsuit says, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The suit paves the way for American to switch providers for those aircraft — provided Gogo doesn't convince the company otherwise.

Gogo said in a statement that it is looking forward to "resolving the disagreement regarding contract interpretation that led to this declaratory judgment action."

“We believe that 2Ku is the best performing technology in the market and look forward to discussing our offer with American," the provider said.

The battle for the fastest in-flight Wi-Fi is ongoing: More and more passengers are traveling with their own devices, and few people are still impressed at merely being able to log into a repository of humankind's collective knowledge while flying through the air in a metal tube at 35,000 feet.
