American Idol winners Phillip Phillips, Kris Allen, Nick Fradiani, Lee Dewyze, and David Cook joined together during the show's series finale on Thursday night for a tribute to David Bowie.

The five performed a medley that included “Starman,” “Rebel Rebel,” and “The Jean Genie." And if you're thinking "Hey, it looks like a bunch of white guys with guitars," that -- for better or worse -- was completely intentional.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Thursday's finale, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said he "put them all together" for a reason.

"There was this little thing that went out in the press called 'white guys with guitars,' WGWG. So I put them all together, with their guitars, all doing this incredible Bowie tribute medley," he said. "And nowhere else can you get five American Idols together in one room. And I promise you, if they went out on tour, and each did 20 minutes in their own right and 20 minutes together, this is a sell-out tour, they’re so good together. The WGWG tour."

It would have been nice if, honoring a man who was a voice for the LGBT community and other outsiders, Idol producers would have picked a more diverse lineup, but hey, at least they didn't wear wigs.

(Fun footnote for you guitar players out there: Notice that each of them is playing the songs' most basic chords, right off the Ultimate Guitar app. Way to put some thought into the arrangement, guys.)
