Women are still vastly underrepresented on the lineups of electronic music festivals around the world.

It's why the appearance of Australian DJ Anna Lunoe at one of the world's biggest EDM festivals is such an important moment. Lunoe took control of the decks at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Lunoe is the first woman to play solo at the main stage, kineticFIELD, in the 20 years it has been held. The DJ also praised EDM duo Krewella, who were the first females to take the main stage in 2014.

Lunoe killed it in front of the thousands of festival goers fortunate enough to be there, as well fans who caught her set streamed online.

It marks a meteoric rise for Lunoe, who shared a photo of herself playing at an Australian festival back in 2010 on her Facebook page on Saturday. "Back then I never even considered that one day I'd make it to the USA & play big festivals. It wasn't even an option," she wrote.

"Tonight I play the biggest stage in America. Whenever I'm faced with a new challenge I gotta remind myself how far I've exceeded any possible expectation I had."

Lunoe told USA Today in 2014 that getting more women to play at big festivals is all about how many start DJing and making music at a grassroots level.

"It's a numbers game. The more girls get in, the more girls will go up. In the next 10 years, there will be a big change," she told the publication. Looks like that change is starting to really happen.
