J.J. Abrams: Anton Yelchin will not be replaced in 'Star Trek' movies
Actor Anton Yelchin tragically passed away last month in a car accident at the age of 27, and his legacy is honored in Star Trek Beyond, which opens this weekend.
Star Trek producer J.J. Abrams made a statement that Yelchin's character would not be recast in any upcoming films.
“I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better,” Abrams told Postmedia Network, as reported by the Toronto Sun.

Earlier this week, Paramount confirmed that a fourth Star Trek film is on its way, with Chris Hemsworth slated to return, making Trekkies naturally wonder how Yelchin's character will be handled.
Yelchin's character Pavel Chekov, a young mathematical prodigy, supposedly has a bigger role in Star Trek Beyond than in the franchise's past two films.
When asked if he was considering killing off Yelchin's character in an upcoming installment, Abrams said, “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it."
Star Trek Beyond opens in theaters on July 22.
