Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now being accused of spending an average amount of money on her hair.

The Washington Times, a conservative daily paper, exposed Ocasio-Cortez's reasonably priced hair maintenance on Wednesday night. According to "sources familiar with the salon," the paper says, the congresswoman spent roughly $80 on a cut and $180 on lowlights at Last Tangle in Washington.

"The self-declared socialist, who regularly rails against the rich and complains about the cost of living inside the Beltway, spent nearly $300 on her hairdo at a pricey salon she frequents in downtown Washington," the Washington Times complained.

The paper also made a point to mention that a 20 percent tip — the standard for customer service jobs — would have cost $52.

But $80 for a women's cut is the standard price in Washington, DC. The mobile payments app Square compiled data on the national average cost of haircuts in 2016 and concluded that our nation's capitol had the priciest haircuts for women. While women in DC paid an average of $78.10, men paid an average of $60.80.

The Washington Times also took issue with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez was not taking advantage of subsidized Senate Hair Care Services, a secretive salon in the basement of the Russel Senate Office Building. Although the salon has been criticized for being a frivolous expense to taxpayers, Jeff Sessions still gets his $20 cuts there.

Twitter users had a field day with that comment.

Ocasio-Cortez declined to comment for the Washington Times story, but responded to a tweet joking about how democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders and herself dared to partake in capitalist practices like buying goods and services.

"The right-wing want you to blame Democratic socialism for their own moral failures," she said in a quote tweet. "Our policies, like Medicare for All, advance prosperity for working people. They're just made we look good doing it."

She also noted that Vice President Mike Pence spent $600,000 of taxpayer funds to take his limo on a detour to a Trump golf course.

Many people on Twitter rallied in support of Ocasio-Cortez, pointing out the absurd double standard that female public figures are held to.

And honestly, paying that price for lowlights in a major city is pretty good deal.
