Apple has acquired Workflow, a popular productivity app that lets you automate tasks on your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

The terms of the acquisition, which was first reported on by TechCrunch, were not made public, but Apple has confirmed the deal.

On the business end of things, Apple has picked up both the app and the team of young developers behind it. Apple already has a similar app on macOS called Automator, but the acquisition of Workflow might lead to integrated automation of tasks on Apple's mobile devices as well.

Workflow lets you simplify tasks like calculating tips or log your weight; you can create your own "workflows" or browse through other users' automated tasks.

Workflow was named one of the best iOS apps by Apple in 2015, and folks that like to automate things swear by it -- just check this quite busy Workflow-devoted subreddit.

For users, this is good news. Apple currently doesn't plan to kill the app and will continue to update it in the future. Even better, the company just made it available for free. You can try it out here.
