Apple is expected to announce a lot of new software at its WWDC keynote today — iOS 12, macOS 10.14, and watchOS 5 — but one announcement might have slipped out early.

Ahead of Apple's developer conference, a Reddit user has discovered what appears to be a web player for Apple Music for desktop. Currently, the only way to access Apple Music on a Mac or PC is through iTunes.

Could this be beginning of the end for Apple's most bloated and arguably most disliked piece of software?

The discovery was made after the user noticed Apple had updated the Apple Music tools website with a new "sign in" feature that lets users play complete songs, albums, and playlists, as opposed to just short previews.

You can see a video (it's in Spanish) of the web player in the Reddit user's video below:

Adding a web player could help Apple better compete with the likes of Spotify, which has had a web player for years.

A new player would also mean PC, Mac, and Chromebook users wouldn't need to be forced to use iTunes to stream music from the service, further reducing another friction point. Seriously, have you tried to use iTunes? It's a complete mess these days. If it's not slowing or crashing your computer, it's impossible to navigate.

With a web player Apple Music subscribers would be free from all the legacy features Apple bolted onto iTunes over the last two decades.

WWDC kicks off at 10 a.m. PT on Monday. Keep it locked to Mashable's live blog to see if Apple formally announces this new player.
