The $10,000 Apple Watch Edition is obsolete now

Three years is not enough.

This is going to be a hard lesson for early adopters.

While Apple's new wearable operating system, watchOS 5, is packed with lots of new features, it's not going to run on first generation Apple Watches.

So, that means the $10,000 Apple Watch Editions are now practically worthless. Or rather, they won't be getting any new features, suggesting that it might be time to upgrade from your pricey investment. Even though the device is already three years old, we're still surprised to hear that Apple is ending support so soon — especially when some of the models costs thousands of dollars.

And yes, technically first generation Apple Watches will still work and run watchOS 4, but Apple is effectively ending support on all of the original, first-generation wearables. Granted watchOS 5 would have likely slowed down the first generation devices anyway, it still seems fair to expect Apple to offer better support to its highest-spending customers.

We can only hope that Apple will offer some type of upgrade program or maybe a discount to those who shelled out for the high price of the first generation Apple Watch Editions. Without that type of compensation, we're unsure why anyone wouldn't just feel like they're getting duped.
