For the third year in a row, Apple’s annual software event will be online-only.

But let’s not think about the fact that big in-person conferences are still unsafe in 2022. What’s more important is that Apple confirmed on Tuesday (April 5) that the yearly Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will be held in a virtual format between June 6 and June 10. Apple didn’t specify streaming info in the initial announcement, but you can safely assume it’ll be streamed on Apple’s events website like WWDC was in 2020 and 2021

WWDC is Apple’s excuse to show us what’s next from its various software ventures, namely iOS. Last year brought us iOS 15 with its FaceTime link sharing and Focus Mode features, and it’s widely expected that WWDC 2022 will shed some light on iOS 16. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until the event (or for more leaks to surface) to find out anything about iOS 16 because there’s not much out there at the moment.

A Twitter leak back in January suggested iOS 16 might have huge widgets, but that’s obviously not verifiable at the moment and isn’t much to go on even if it is true. That’s how scarce the iOS rumor mill is right now.

Of course, we’ll probably find out more about the next versions of iPadOS and WatchOS, too. It may not be a big iPhone announcement, but at least you’ll actually be able to use some of the new iOS features without paying $1,200 for a new phone.
