Sneaky April Fool's fruit basket is actually full of delicious cakes and pastries

If you receive a fruit basket on April Fool's day, you have the right to be suspicious -- it might be full of delicious cakes or pastries.

Artist/photographer/baker extraordinaire Christine McConnell made a very special fruit basket for April 1. It contains a sneaky, savory medley of lime meringues, caramel apple pies, blueberry lemon hand pies, pear tarts, orange creme cakes and chocolate coated raisin grapes.

Mashable reached out to the deceptive dessert-maker Christine McConnell for comment. 

"I wrote a baking book entitled Deceptive Desserts and the fruit basket is one of my favorite items in it," McConnell told Mashable over email. "It took about two days to bake everything shown. My personal favorite is the banana bread bars."
