What do Snow, Stannis, Greyjoy and Tywin have in common?

They're all street names in an Australian housing development estate.

But not every character made the cut.

According to the developer of Charlemont Rise in Geelong, he had been forced to change the name of Lannaster Road, after a complaint from a neighbouring estate who took issue with its association with the character Cersei Lannister, who is in an incestuous relationship with her brother in Game of Thrones.

The road has now been renamed Precinct Road.

"They objected to that fact that it had a reference to incest...it's a fictional series," said project manager Gary Smith to the Geelong Advertiser.

Smith added that he had even changed the spelling from Lannister to Lannaster so as to make it "not as obvious."

So far, other roads in the development, including Stannis Street, Baelish Drive and Tywin Street, have been allowed to keep their names.

"We wanted original names as everything is already taken, you have to think outside the circle," said Smith.

"I always liked the Game of Thrones names as they are a bit out there."

The City of Greater Geelong voted to rename the road, after a finding by the Office of Geographic Names decided that it wasn't compliant with the naming rules.

Laurinda Gardner, City of Greater Geelong Administration said the rules stipulated that a road name must not cause offence to the general public.

"(Names) must not be detrimental to the preservation of longstanding community values," she said.
