Turns out, motherhood is not always the best excuse.

On Monday, Australian television presenter Sonia Kruger announced her support for ending Muslim migration into Australia on the breakfast show Today, immediately provoking plenty of backlash and outrage.

After her comments were met with heated discussion on social media, much of which called her out for being racist, Kruger responded using motherhood to justify the diatribe.

"Following the atrocities of last week in Nice where 10 children lost their lives, as a mother, I believe it's vital in a democratic society to be able to discuss these issues without automatically being labelled racist," she wrote.

Well, it's safe to say Kruger's statement didn't ease the fire brewing on social media. Far from it.

In fact, her "as a mother" comment sparked the hashtag #AsAMother, with people around Australia sharing what they're truly concerned about as parents.
