This story contains major spoilers for the ending of Avengers: Infinity War. You've been warned.

True to his word, Thanos ends Avengers: Infinity War by wiping out half the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Bucky, Black Panther, Groot, Wanda, and Falcon all turn to dust in Wakanda, while Mantis, Drax, Star-Lord, Strange, and Spider-Man fade away on Titan.

Someone's gonna have to right these wrongs. And it looks like that salvation may come from an unexpected source.

Avengers: Infinity War has only one end credits scene

Most recent MCU movies have had between two and five scenes buried in the end credits. Infinity War, however, only has one, and it comes at the very end.

What happens: The scene opens on New York City, where Nick Fury and Maria Hill are driving down a busy street. They're talking about Wakanda when they notice something weird is going on outside.

People are looking dazed and disoriented in the streets. Cars are crashing into other cars, the drivers having disappeared. And that's when they realize Maria is crumbling – just like Bucky, Spidey, Strange, and all the rest.

Nick Fury says something about a "code red" and takes out what looks like an old-timey pager. He frantically sends a message to someone, and then turns to dust himself.

The device connects just as Fury disappears. It drops on the ground, and we see some sort of symbol – a yellow star on a blue and red backdrop.

What it means: Comics fans will instantly recognize that logo as belonging to Carol Danvers, the lead character of the upcoming Captain Marvel. Shooting is already underway on that film for a March 2019 release date, with Brie Larson starring and Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing.

Details are largely being kept under wraps, of course. (Marvel gonna Marvel.) But we do know that Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s; that it'll feature Nick Fury as a supporting character; and that it'll borrow elements from the Kree-Skull War storyline from the comics.

What any of that has to do with Infinity War... well, we'll have to wait and see.

However, it does seem like a pretty strong clue that the heroine will appear in Avengers 4, which is due out two months after Captain Marvel.
