Six years ago, someone posted a video called "My Vag" on YouTube, but it's not what you think.

That video turned out to be how rapper and Crazy Rich Asians star Nora Lum a.k.a. Awkwafina got her start, according to an open letter posted to Twitter.

In the letter, Awkwafina opens up about the struggle to be taken seriously as an artist and the necessity of taking risks when following your dream. "Awkwafina was a dream I was chasing, and in some ways I am still chasing her," she writes.

She also details how she got fired and became broke all to keep the dream of Awkwafina alive — even when people told her that her act was a "joke."

"But we need to take risks. We need to go broke. We need to prove them wrong, simply by not giving up," she writes.

The letter also includes a pretty moving detail about the song "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac. Awkwafina explains how she listened to the song when she had her first meeting with a record label that later blew her off.

She listened to the song again going to the premiere for the highly anticipated movie Crazy Rich Asians.

Let's take a closer look at the letter:

To quote "My Vag": "Awkwafina is a genius (and her vagina is 50 times better than a penis.)"
