Pokémon Go is dividing the Indonesian government.

On one end there's the capital city's governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who's been enamoured with the game enough to invite locals to catch Pokémon at the park.

But on the Indonesian island of Bali, its governor Made Mangku Pastika is ready to fire public servants caught for playing, he told local media.

Although the augmented reality game hasn't been launched in the region, Indonesia is the only Asian country in which it works.

Bali's Pastika told Tribun Bali: "If they jump on the Pokémon bandwagon, then there's no need for them to ever come back to the office again." Harsh.

Pastika also claimed that to his satisfaction none of his government employees have been seen playing it.

Since Pokémon Go started to work in Indonesia, businesses have been capitalising on the game with marketing promos.

Despite Indonesians flocking to Pokémon Go in droves, some members of the central government remain sceptical. One of them is TB Hasanuddin, a senior minister who cautioned during a parliament session on Sunday, that the app could be used as a tracking device to commit crimes.

According to CNN Indonesia, Hasanuddin is so wary of the app that he's calling for investigations to be made into it.
