British singer Pete Doherty will help reopen the venue with a gig on November 16, which will be followed by shows by the Senegalese star Youssou N'Dour, Nada and MZ.

"Renovation works at Bataclan have started," the venue managers said. "They consist in the refurbishment of all the infrastructure and equipment of the concert hall without changing its original arrangement."

Managers said they would attempt to preserve the venue's "warmth and friendliness," as well as "maintain the festive and popular spirit that has always been its character."
