Telltale Games' first trip to Gotham City kicks off on Aug. 2, when "Realm of Shadows" -- the first episode in Batman: The Telltale Series -- premieres.

A new trailer gives us our first look at Telltale's Gotham in motion. Much like the work the studio has done before on The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, Batman looks like it springs from the pages of a comic book.

Telltale hasn't had much to say about the plot of the first episode or the season as a whole. This trailer suggests that mob boss Carmine Falcone is one of the big threats, though -- given Batman's sizable costumed rogue's gallery -- that could be a red herring.

Harvey Dent is still whole in the trailer -- no Two-Face transformation yet -- and he's running for mayor. In most Batman accounts, Dent became a super-villain while still working as District Attorney.

Catwoman is the closest we get to a costumed super-villain in the trailer. She's always been more of a switch-hitter when it comes to crime, burgling as it suits her but siding with the forces of good when serious threats spring up. She's more opportunist than villain.

The trailer also features a gang of gun-toting henchmen wearing ski masks painted with stylized skulls. Could they be working for longtime Batman villain Bane, whose mask also resembles a skull?

All we can do for now is speculate. "Realm of Shadows" arrives on Aug. 2, with four episodes to follow before the season ends. The series also heads to retail in North America on Sept. 13, with the first episode on the disc and subsequent episodes automatically unlocked as they're released.

In true Telltale fashion, you'll be able to play Batman virtually anywhere. Look for it on PC/Mac, iOS/Android, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
