Don't mess with Texas women.

Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks stomped all over the CMA Awards Wednesday night, singing Bey's country track off Lemonade, "Daddy Lessons," and there was a lot of sassy clapping.

"Texas," snarled Beyoncé as Natalie Maines echoed it right back. You may remember that the whole reason country music and the Dixie Chicks had a falling out was Maines' comments about George W. Bush about their mutual home state.

“Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all," she said back in 2003. "We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”

This version also featured a few lines from the Dixie Chicks' "Long Time Gone."

The benevolent Queen Bey kindly put version on the song featuring her cowgirl crew on SoundCloud.

While the awards show banter all night relied on safe, political but non-partisan humor, the presence of two staunchly liberal acts at a country music awards show teaming up just a week before the election felt revolutionary.

But the duet makes plenty of sense beyond their political alignments and homelands (Bey hails from Houston and the Chicks got in formation in Dallas).

The band has been performing the song on tour lately.

Plus, the Country Music Association Awards have a history of bringing out pop acts -- especially ones with Southern roots -- for the show. Last year, Tennessee's own Justin Timberlake performed and just generally expressed himself.
