Beyoncé covered what is arguably Prince's toughest song, and she slayed

Prince's "The Beautiful Ones" is not a song one just covers

With its on-the-verge-of-tears "Baby, baby, baby" pleading, its all-out unraveling in screaming falsetto finale, it's a writhing, sometimes violent beast of a song that most artists wouldn't even consider attempting.

But then again, it's a little different when you're Beyoncé. During her stop in Dallas on her Formation World Tour, the Lemonade singer paid tribute to Prince with a cover of the Purple Rain track. And she slayed, because that's what she does

Not only did she hit every note, but she nailed the  emotion of the song, too. She sang on her knees, seemingly begging. She seems to throw a screaming fit at the end. At one point you wonder, Is Bey going to cry? And really, how could she not?

Beyonce even switched up genders in the lyric -- "Is it her or is it me?" -- to make "The Beautiful Ones" seem like it would fit thematically on Lemonade.

While "Purple Rain" played in between songs during her Formation World Tour kickoff in Miami last month, this marks her first time covering Prince during the trek. She had covered the track before in 2011 at Glastonbury Music Festival ... where she followed it up with "Sex on Fire."

Beyoncé is one of several artists who have paid tribute to Prince in the weeks since his sudden death at age 57 on April 21. Several Coachella artists performed covers, along with Beck, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam and more.
