UPDATE: Jan. 22, 2018, 5:54 p.m. PST Bill Cosby spoke to reporters after his surprise show. His comments have been added below.

Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby is back on stage in Philadelphia Monday night -- even with a pending re-trial for a sexual assault case scheduled for April.

Cosby, 80, announced the last-minute performance at LaRose Jazz Club on Facebook as the event started. It was framed as a "return" to the stage as part of a tribute night. The announcement said, "Bill Cosby will honor his fans with a historic performance..."

Photos and videos of the "surprise" performance started trickling in online, and show the former actor wearing a "Hello Friend" sweatshirt.

Cosby has been out of the comedy circuit after more than 50 women accused him of sexual misconduct. A 2004 incident went to court and after a jury couldn't reach a verdict last year, the case was set for a re-trial, which is coming up in April. The woman accused Cosby of drugging and raping her.

After the show, he spoke to reporters at the club and said he had no comments about his upcoming trial. Instead he reflected on his first appearance in years outside of court. "This is life," he said. "And life changes. And so it's not to be feared to go out. I go out."

Not much to laugh about.
