Leave it to Meryl to start a conversation.

During her acceptance speech of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony, legendary actress Meryl Streep used her time to criticize President-elect Donald Trump for mocking New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski for his disability at a 2015 rally.

"This instinct to humiliate when it's modeled by someone in a public platform, it filters down into everybody's life because it gives permission for others to do the same," the actress said, "Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence."

The powerful speech inspired a range of reactions across social media, and resulted in a captivating Twitter feud between Fox News personality and daughter of Republican Sen. John McCain, Meghan McCain, and Billy on the Street and Difficult People star, Billy Eichner.

Eichner publicly praised Streep for utilizing her platform to make a political statement.

McCain, conversely, had a very different view.

Spotting McCain's comments, Eichner decided to set the record straight.

And, just like that, the Twitter feud was on.

And it kept going.

Let this be a lesson to us all: if you come for Meryl Streep, you'll have to get through Billy Eichner first.
