As Elwood Blues once told his band, "We're on a mission from God" – in this case, to bring Blues Brothers back to the screen. They'll have some help Bento Box Entertainment, the company behind shows like Bob's Burgers and The Awesomes.

Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's widow, Judy, are in the process of developing the 1980 film for network television as an animated comedy series.

"The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement -- and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich," Aykroyd says.

The Blues Brothers officially debuted on Saturday Night Live in 1978, followed by the album Briefcase Full of Blues later that year. Aykroyd and Judy Belushi thought of an animated series as early as 1997, before the release of Blues Brothers 2000. The series never made to air on UPN as planned, and Belushi and Aykroyd pitched it again in 2011.

The duo will attempt again to pitch the series with Bento's animation -- and the age of peak TV and nostalgia -- on their side. If networks are interested, this could mean bringing the band back together.
