Creating hype for their new release is something we expect from musicians, but Bon Iver fans may have expected something different from what they got, on this occasion.

The indie band put up 11 images featuring different locations on his Instagram page recently. They all carried same time and date -- 6:30 p.m. on Sep. 29.

Was it a live gig? Surely not. A listening party ahead of the release of third studio album 22, A Million? Probably. A pop-up shop? That's kinda likely too.

For the hundreds that packed out one Melbourne laneway, they would soon find out it was indeed a listening party for the new record.

But on a small boombox. Playing a cassette. It was "peak fkn Melbourne," as Jeremy Story Carter put it on Twitter.

A sign instructed only three accompanying printed newspapers should be taken per person.

It also noted that when the music stopped, the tape needed to be flipped over to Side B.

Isn't everyone thrilled.

Nevertheless, plenty of people showed up to the "events" across the globe, proving there's no "skinny love" for Iver. Even this news reporter in Wisconsin. Bless.
