Every day is a horror show in 2017 -- no need to wait until actual Halloween.

It's depressingly fitting, then, that people can now not only purchase Border Patrol Agent costumes for Halloween. They can think: that's a good idea. The costume was first spotted in New York City's Halloween stores by Gothamist a few days ago. Now, they're popping up in stores all across the country.

Elongated sigh.

The costume, emblazoned with the phrase "AGENT WALL," retails for $29.99 at Spirit Halloween, a NYC costume store. You can also purchase a sexy version of the costume for $54.99 on Spicy Lingerie, because nothing screams sex like separating undocumented mothers from their children.

Spirit Halloween had this to say about the costume:

"Spirit Halloween offers a full range of Halloween costumes that celebrate and appreciate all cultures, occupations and figures, both real and imaginary that, we playfully acknowledge topical themes - and building the wall is certainly a trending conversation in today’s political climate. We believe this costume carries similar sentiments akin to that of a police officer, military costumes, firefighter, doctor and more."

Halloween costumes are, admittedly, supposed to playfully scare people: their job is to be frightening. But there are costumes that hit closer to home than others: for many, you're more likely to be hurt by a Border Patrol Agent than a sexy nurse or a monster under the bed. The costume isn't entirely new but it's taken on new meaning and new power in the Trump administration, where arrests of undocumented immigrants are up close to 40 percent.

Costume-makers everywhere: give journalists a break for once. Every year we have to write about your dumbass costumes so ignorant people don't wear them and hurt others/destroy their social media reputation ever.

Remember the sexy ebola costume? We do! We had to write about it.

Do better. I've been waiting for that Olivia Benson costume for 20 years now.
