A politician said Patrick Stewart was in 'Star Wars' and we are not having it

So much cringe.

Ladies and gentleman, behold that most base of creatures, the politician trying to land a pop-culture reference.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson was on the Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, and made a blunder that brought the wrath of internet nerds everywhere.

Discussing Brexit, the host Andrew Marr asked Johnson (himself a leading figure in the Brexit campaign) about the recent anti-Brexit campaign the People's Vote.

Actor Patrick Stewart spoke to Andrew Marr about the movement, saying the campaign is "simply requesting that we have another chance to consider what the terms of this divorce are going to be." He even said that Charles Xavier and Captain Jean-Luc Picard would have voted for Britain to remain in the European Union.

Addressing Stewart's stance, Johnson made a horrific nerd misstep. He tried to make a point using the famous Star Trek line, "to boldly go where no man has gone before," but then he said this.

"Patrick Stewart, he had something to do with Star Wars didn’t he?"

A worse inaccuracy than £350 million a week for the NHS? Probably not, but definitely on par with David Cameron confusing West Ham and Aston Villa.
