Even if you obsessed about boy bands when you were a kid, you probably didn't know much about the man who orchestrated them.

Lou Pearlman, the mastermind behind bands like *NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys and O-Town, died on Friday, August 19, at age 62, while serving a 25-year prison sentence for running a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Pearlman was convicted of fraud in 2008. According to Rolling Stone, Pearlman had stolen over $300 million from investors in his scheme.

While Pearlman's legacy ended with a scandal, his career also brought happiness to thousands, if not millions, of teens in the late '90s and early 2000s, while also launching the careers of several famous musicians.

Former boy band members have been sharing their thoughts on Pearlman's death on Twitter. While many are ultimately mourning the loss of their former business manager, the mixed feelings expressed in their tweets clearly show how imperfect he was.

Former *NSYNCer Lance Bass possibly said it best: "He might not have been a stand-up businessman, but I wouldn’t be doing what I love today [without] his influence."
